I’ve been quiet as of late, but I’m pleased to say it’s not for lack of writing inspiration or because I don’t have anything to say - I’ve got plenty to say. It is mostly because my husband and I have been finding it difficult to navigate these Mexican waters when it comes to finding a place that feels like home - and one we can afford.
Visiting Chetumal, Mexico 2022
We lived in Ciudad del Carmen for about three months before getting burned out with the crazy traffic and sardine-can housing. So, we came back to our little community in the heart of Campeche. But we’ve been burned out with this place for a while, too. The water situation is a huge hassle, and we spend a lot on gasoline every week just to drive the forty minutes it takes to get to the nearest grocery store - and gas is more expensive here than in the United States.
There’s no safe place to do our morning walk/run like we did in Arkansas nearly every single day for years. I’ve gained 10 pounds since I moved to Mexico, and now my cholesterol is up. My body was used to its daily 40-minute walk, and it has been a year since I’ve done any consistent exercise. I have a treadmill, and I use it on occasion, but I prefer walking outside. Especially since I’m inside our tiny studio apartment almost 24-7 and rarely see the outside world.
Here, walking around outside, we risk getting hit by a car on slim roads with careless drivers or attacked by wild dogs. Street dogs in Mexico are everywhere. I found an article that stated there are approximately 24 MILLION stray dogs running around this country, and I absolutely believe it.
So, we might try living in Chetumal for a few months. Of course, that means paying rent again and further chipping away at the little money we have left in savings. I’m hoping and praying every day that I can sell another book soon or that one can hit the bestsellers lists like I did back in 2012. Or that my husband can get a good boxing match offer. Because if something doesn’t happen for us soon financially, we are going to be in a lot of trouble living in Mexico.
Wish me luck. I’m going to need it.
On the book front, I’m glad to say that I’ve been working on several new ones in different genres. More info. to come!
I did, however, re-edit EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN and gave it a brand-new cover. And I will go ahead and admit that I changed the ending back to the original, and I do intend to write the sequel, WINDS OF THE IRON FEATHER. But I’ll also admit that it might be a long while before I finish it. Months. Years. I don’t know. But the sequel is definitely in the plan.
Anyway, here’s the new cover.
Yeeyyyy, can't wait, I truly believe that it's gonna be amazing😍😍😍😍. It doesn't matter how long it will take, because I know once it's finished it will be epic. This news makes me soo happy!!!!
